Hansen Seafood Co. is the largest fish, cephalopod, and seafood processing company in Gambia and one of the most important in the Central and Northwest Africa region. The company boasts over 1,000 tons of storage capacity at -21 ºC, along with the freezing power of three high-capacity tunnels.
We are located at the mouth of the Gambia River, surrounded by mangroves in a pristine environment of high ecological value. Our facilities include a private jetty, where a large part of our raw materials are unloaded.
At the heart of the Gambia River estuary lie our processing plants, spanning over 4,500 m² and equipped with six production lines.

At our facilities, we operate production lines for filleting, cutting, glazing, packaging, and freezing.
Hansen Seafood operates its own fleet to transport goods directly from the port to the processing plant and distribution centers.
Common octopus (Octopus vulgaris), caught exclusively by artisanal pirogues on the local beaches of Tanji.
We hand-select the finest grades and transport them to our processing plant in our own refrigerated trucks.
Cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis) are processed immediately after landing and packed into approximately 3 kg blocks in size grades of <100 g, 100–300 g, and 300–600 g, as well as 10 kg blocks in size grades of 600–1,000 g and over 1,000 g.
Cuttlefish are eviscerated and carefully washed, with the skin completely removed, any excess cartilage/quill eliminated, arms/tentacles trimmed, and no beaks or eyes.
We do not use soaking or plumping agents, bleaching agents, or additional glazing.
Products are available in block and IQF formats, packed in approximately 10 kg cartons.
We process green spiny lobster, Notialis white prawns, tiger prawns, and giant tiger prawns in whole, headless shell-on tail, and peeled formats, packed in 2 kg and 1 kg presentations with no added glazing—all wild-caught by artisanal fisheries.
We process a broad selection of local species—white grouper, tiger sole, tongue sole, and croaker—sourced exclusively from artisanal fisheries. Products are available whole or gutted, as fillets, and, in the case of tongue sole, also skinned on both sides.
We do not use soaking or plumping agents, bleaching agents, or additional glazing.
